Victor A. (Babe) Gizoni of Troy, MI,,
was one of the all-time great wrestlers in Western Pennsylvania, both in
scholastic and collegiate ranks.
Gizoni, a native of Morgan, was undefeated for seven years in high
school and college wrestling. He graduated from Washington High School
in 1948 after winning three PIAA championships.
He added two national collegiate titles while competing at Waynesburg
College where he graduated in 1952 and won the outstanding wrestler
award in a national tournament.
Gizoni is a member of the Helms Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame and was
inducted into the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1977 and the
Waynesburg College Hall of Fame in 1969.
He earned a Bronze Star while serving in the Korean Conflict.
Gizoni, who received a masters degree in education from Wayne State
University in Detroit, has been employed for the past 32 years as an
elementary teacher in Lakeview Public Schools in St Clair, MI.
