Joe Urso of Washington was born in
Watson, WV. and graduated in 1939 from Trinity High School, where he won
four letters in baseball and three in football and basketball.
He attended Morris Harvey College, now the University of Charleston,
WV., and began his minor league baseball career with the St. Louis
Cardinal chain in the Arkansas State League before World War II. He
returned to the Cardinals' organization in l945 and played second base
for teams in Columbus, OH, Lynchburg, VA., Geneva, AL., Tallahassee,
FL., Union City. TN., Fall River. MA., and Flint, MI.
Urso left professional baseball in 1951 and returned to Washington,
playing in sandlot leagues for Pennsylvania Transformers. Scott Motors,
Washington Steel and S. A. Meyer.
He is a retired employee of the U. S. Postal Service and officiated high
school and college football and basketball for 26 years. |
