R. Barry Trew, who died March 30 of
this year at the age of 55, was one of Pennsylvania's outstanding rifle
Trew, a native of Bentleyville and graduate of Bentleyville High School
and Washington and Jefferson College in 1959, was a four-time
All-America and NCAA champion as a member of W & J's rifle team.
He won five open national gallery championships, was national collegiate
gallery champion and Pennsylvania junior and open gallery champion. He
was the first shooter to achieve a perfect score in the
Pittsburgh-Suburban Rifle League in which he once fired six consecutive
Trew was first alternate for the 1960 U.S. Olympic rifle team and had
represented the United States as a rifleman in nine foreign countries.
He had coached rifle teams at W & J and St. Francis College and
Washington and McGuffey high schools. At the time of his death, he was a
resident of Orbisonia, Huntington County, and was co-owner of businesses
in Bentleyville and Waynesburg.
