Art Richardson, graduate, University
of Pittsburgh, was a three-year letterman at the University of
Pittsburgh, a 1966 Team Captain, Most Valuable Player and a 1965 and
1966 Regional Soccer All-American.
Art played semi-pro soccer throughout Western Pennsylvania from 1966
through 1988, and Professional Soccer for the Pittsburgh Cannons in 1973
and Pittsburgh Miners in 1975.
Art was Trinity High School's soccer coach from 1968 through 1985. His
teams compiled a record of 225-61-33 for an outstanding .757 winning
percentage. Under Art's direction, Trinity became one of the most
successful and outstanding soccer programs in Pennsylvania. His teams
won 10 conference championships, were WPIAL Champions in 1974,
three-time WPIAL runners-up (1975, 1983 and 1984), and PIAA champions in
1983. He was named the WPIAL Coach-of-the-Year in 1983.
Art developed an amazing 84 WPIAL All-Star Players, 11 All-PIAA Players
and four All-American players at Trinity. He became the first Western
Pennsylvania Coach selected to the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches
Association Hall of Fame.
A past president of the Pennsylvania Coaches Association Member-WPIAL
soccer steering committee from 1972 to present and the current All-State
Chairman-Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association. Rounding out his
soccer career, Art was a National Collegiate Official from 1980 through
1996 and the PIAA from 1985 to 2000. He was the rules interpreter for
the PIAA Districts 7 and 8 in 1996 to 2000 and a member of the National
Federation Rules Committee from 1997 to 2000.
Art and his wife, Susan, reside in Prosperity and are parents of three
children, Rachael, Erik and Lorinda and have one grandchild.
