A native of Benwood, West Virginia,
Andy became a four-year letter winner playing basketball for W&J College
1948 - 1951. He finished his career with 1071 points. He was the first
player in the area to introduce the jump shot. In 1948-49 he scored 21
points in a 47-45 win over West Virginia he led his team with 154 points
that season.
Mestrovic was one of the founding members of coach Adam Sanders platoon
system, playing two teams each game (Red & Black). In 1949-50 seasons he
scored 22 points in a 63-45 win over Arizona State and shut down
All-American Wade Oliver and broke Hal Tidnicks school record for points
scored in a game with 41 against Ohio Wesleyan. In the 1950-'51 season
he led W&J to one of it's greatest seasons in history.
He scored 20 or more points a total of 14 times during the season; he
also scored 30 or more points 7 times that season. Named to the
Tri-State All-Star Team, All-State Team and also named the District
Player of the Year. Was the Tri-State Player of the Week 6 times during
his career. He was a prolific scorer in an age when low scoring games
were the norm. He was inducted into the W&J Hall of Fame, Class 2002.
