WJPA is a 4-time winner of the Associated Press Broadcasters Association
"Best Sports Play by Play" Award. A 60+ year group of people who have
committed their facilities to broadcasting hundreds of hours of high
school and college sports action every year. Each year WJPA Radio is the
worldwide home of the PONY League World Series. Nearly every Pony World
Series game ever played in Washington has been broadcast on WJPA-AM. And
now those games are available around the world via wjpa.com. WJPA has
presented start-to finish coverage of the PIAA Individual Wrestling
Championships every year starting in 1950. That's 54 consecutive years
of live coverage. In addition, 15-20 dual meets every year, plus the
Chartiers-Houston and Powerade in-season tournaments, the WPIAL and PIAA
Dual Meet Tournaments, and the post season AA & AAA Section, District
and Regional Championships leading to the PIAA finals.
Western Pennsylvania sports fans tune-in to high school football and W&J
College football every weekend throughout the Fall. WJPA presents 2-3
high school games every weekend during the regular season and playoff
games through the PIAA finals. WJPA has covered W&J football for over 60
years, including every NCAA Division III playoff game ever played by the
Presidents. High school basketball regular season and playoff games,
both boys and girls, are regular Winter sports features, plus the High
School Hockey Game of the Week and PIHL Playoffs. Spring takes WJPA's
sports crew to the WPIAL/PIAA baseball and softball playoffs and track
and field championships. May through August, every Washington Wild
Things baseball game played is heard on WJPA, and that's just produced
locally. WJPA is Washington County's Radio home of the Pittsburgh
Pirates baseball carrying approximately 155 games a year and also
carries the Pittsburgh Steelers football plus primetime NFL action from
CBS Radio.
