Don has been a friend and mentor to
the youth of our area for the past twenty years. He has unselfishly
given his time and efforts for the betterment of our youth in the
various youth baseball programs. He has coached and managed in the
Washington Youth Baseball leagues 1986 through 2005, - Pinto (7-8 yr.
olds), Mustang (9-10 yr. olds), Bronco (11-12 yr. olds), Pony (13-14 yr.
olds), Colt (14-16 yr. olds) All-Stars at all levels including 2000 &
2005 Pony World Series Teams.
In addition to his coaching duties, Schrader was elected to the
Washington Youth Baseball Council in 1994, Pinto League President,
1995-1997, Washington Youth Baseball Vice President, 19981999 and
Washington Youth Baseball President, 1999-2003, serving two terms and
currently serves on the Washington Youth Baseball Council.
During his presidency, Washington Youth Baseball increased the number of
teams from 47 to 53 and registration increased from 515 to 656. He was
instrumental in including the Shetland League for 5 & 6 year olds, and
in the completion of Washington Youth Baseball's 8th. Baseball field,
(Shetland). In addition a memorial for past players and coaches of
Washington Youth Baseball was created.
Don has fulfilled a childhood dream of becoming a coach. His goal was to
always set a good example, being a teacher of the game and building
character to his players to prepare them for adult lives. He is living
his dream and continues to help our youth learn fairness, compassion and
the importance of having fun.
