One of Avella’s “Elite” athletes. A three year letterman in football at
Avella. He started as a sophomore on the 1961 WPIAL Class B Championship
football team. In 1963 he was PIAA All-Stare selection and was nominated
for the Pennsylvania “Big 33” team. In wrestling he was a Regional
Runner-up at heavy weight.
Daney attended the University of Detroit, and then transferred to the
University of Texas El Paso when Detroit dropped football. At UTEP he
was a 3 year letterman as a defensive lineman. He played in the 1965 and
1967 SUN BOWLS and was a member of the 1968 College All-Star team that
played the Green Bay Packers at Soldiers Field in Chicago. Named to the
University of Texas, El Paso Miners All-Time Football Team. He is one of
only two ever National Football Leagues 1st. Round picks from UTEP.
Drafted in the 1st. Round of the National Football League in 1968 by the
Kansas City Chiefs. Played Offensive Guard and was an outstanding
Special Teams Player. He played in Super Bowl IV (Kansas City 23 —
Minnesota 7) on January 11, 1970. Daney had a 7 year Professional career
all with Kansas City Chiefs.
