Avella High School
A graduate of Avella High School where he was a 4 year golf letterman
and a 3 year basketball letterman. He placed 3 rd. in the Pennsylvania
State Elks Golf Tournament, 1965.
He qualified for the 1974 US Amateur at Ridgewood Country Club, NJ and
defeated defending champion Craig Stadler in match play, lost in the 2nd
Round. Qualified for the 1976 US Amateur at Bel-Air Country Club, CA,
but lost in the 1st. round.
Qualified Sectionally for the 1978 US Open but missed the final stage at
Sunnehana Country Club. Placed 2nd.at the 1978 Pennsylvania Amateur at
Westmoreland Country Club. Qualified for the 1978 US Amateur at
Canterbury Country Club in Cleveland, OH Made the final 64 for match
play but lost in the first round of match play. Received the 1979 Upper
Ohio Valley Dapper Dan Outstanding Achievement Award.
Qualified for the 1980 US Amateur at Pinehurst, missed match play.
Qualified locally for the1983 US Open missed the final stage at
Cleveland, OH. Received the 1985 Upper Ohio Valley Dapper Dan Club
Special Recognition Award. Inducted into the Ohio Valley Golf
Association - Legends of Golf. Larry has been the winner of numerous
Metal and Best Ball Titles in the Tri-state Area.
